Last Order Dates for Christmas

Now that Christmas is fast approaching I want to make sure you are all aware of the final order dates to ensure delivery on time.

The final date for both lino cuts and name paintings is Monday 12th December. Any orders taken after this time will be despatched from 7th January 2012.

If you miss the order date and would still like to receive an order before Christmas get in touch with me and I'll see what I can do. This only applies to Lino print orders however.

Wood Block Printing at Curwen

On Monday I went to the Curwen Studios in Cambridgeshire to take part in a woodblock printing workshop at their study centre.

What a fantastic day it was. Tutor Susie Turner MA was informative and enthusiastic and I can't wait to start experimenting with the techniques learnt. Although similar in principle to lino, the wood it very different to work with. The main change being the grain of the wood and thinking about how it can work for you. The print is very much defined by the piece of wood.

The Curwen Studio is a fascinating place. Specialising in fine art printing for artists, it has an outstanding reputation. It is humbling to think of the list of artists who have produced prints with Curwen - Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Edward Bawden and Paula Rego to name but a few.

I would highly recommend the Curwen Print Study Centre to both beginners and experienced printmakers.

Pin Mill

I recently spent the day at Pin Mill, near Ipswich on the Suffolk coast. It was cold and misty and the only movements were the shell ducks milling around at low tide and the goings on at the boat yard. The colours were all very wintery and muted but it was lovely.

There is a very good pub right on the water which does lovely food. A lot of fish, as you'd expect, and all proper pub food. It was also the setting for Arthur Ransome's book 'We Didn't Mean to go to Sea.'

I took lots of photos and did lots of sketches whilst I was there which I am now using to make a new print.

NEW LINO PRINT

I am sorry it has been a big delay since my last post. Christmas was very busy here which was great but now it is over I've had a chance to work on some new linocuts.

The first is based on a village in Cornwall that I visited during the summer. There was a lovely little steam taxi that puffed around on the water all day so I had to include her in the print!

It is called 'Puffing Across the Bay' and will be available on my website very soon.

NEW LINO PRINT RELEASES

I have just released my new range of lino prints. They are 5 block prints this time, each colour being printed from a different lino. They all inspired by beaches I have visited and loved growing up so I hope you like them too!

I've really enjoyed experimenting with multiple block prints. They take much more time but it's been great having a new challenge!

New Prints and Honeymoon

I have been a bit slow on my blog posts recently and that is because I have been busy getting ready for my wedding this weekend. I'm getting very excited about it but it does mean I will be away for the next few weeks on my honeymoon so orders will be taking a bit longer if they are placed during this time. The details are all on my website.

I have also been busy making new lino prints for it which I've had to keep secret until now. They will be officially launched when I return so keep an eye out!

A May Fair

I went to my first fete of the year yesterday when I was lucky enough to have a stand at the Medbourne Playschool May Fair. I went armed with waterproof tarpaulin, ready to throw it over my stand when the clouds came over but luckily it wasn't needed and the sun shone all afternoon! I launched my new range of lino prints and cards there which went down really well so thank you to everyone who visited my stand and thank you to Medbourne Playschool for inviting me to exhibit.

I recently commissioned a painting by Cornish artist Eric Ward. He paints the lovely villages on the south Cornwall coast such as St. Ives and Fowey. They are stunning oils and capture the light and atmosphere of that area beautifully.

My painting arrived last week and I am so pleased with it I am devoting this week's Monday Monday to the work of Eric Ward.

Eric Ward was born in 1945 in St. Ives, Cornwall, where he has lived for most of his life (his great grandmother was married to the wonderful artist Alfred Wallis). After leaving school, he worked as a fisherman until 1985 when he became St. Ives Harbour Master. Always interested in art, Eric started painting in 1987 at the St. Ives School of Painting. His reputation as an accomplished artist is well deserved and I feel honoured to own one of his works.

I have recently started selling my lino prints at the following galleries in London and Saffron Walden. I would highly recommend visiting them if you are near by as they sell a wonderful range of work.

Ingo Fincke Gallery 24 Battersea Rise, London

Ingo Fincke is a family run gallery on Battersea Rise in South West London and was first established in 1958. It is a very friendly and approachable gallery and is is definitely worth visiting to see exhibitions by both established and up and coming artists.

Ingo Fincke are also extremely experienced framers with the largest selection of mouldings I have ever seen. They will guide you through all the different options of mount, frame and glass and will finish everything to conservation standard. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly and make it a pleasure to visit.

Church Street Gallery 17 Church Street, Saffron Walden

Situated in the lovely market town of Saffron Walden, the Church Street Gallery specialises in contemporary paintings, prints and applied arts. With work by local printmakers, painters, ceramicists, glassmakers and jewellers, the gallery is a pleasure to explore. Commissions for Christmas

Hello and Happy New Year!
Now that Christmas is over I can show you a few name painting commissions I was working on in December. I couldn't show them before as they were ordered as Christmas presents!

Marching Soldiers
This painting was for a customer who asked for a soldier design to go with a painted chair they had already given to a little boy. I am really pleased with the design so will be adding it to my permanent collection very soon.

Lions and Giraffes

Two people commissioned me to make animal designs in December. One, a little boy call Leo, with Lions and the other with giraffes.

They paintings worked very well and I may work on some more individual animal designs to add to the collection as an alternative to the animal alphabet.

Thank you to everyone who commissioned these special paintings, especially the soldiers which will be added to the full range.

Christmas Order Deadlines

I had a successful time at the Handm@de Cambridge Christams Fair on Saturday and it was really great to meet so many customers and other stall holders. It has made me feel really Christmassy now, especailly as so many lights and wreaths went up over the weekend.

My new gift tags went very quickly and are now available on line as well. There are four lino cut designs in each pack and each is hand printed. I am offering free delivery on orders of gift tags so to visit the website click here.

I will be exhibiting at the Handm@de Cambridge Craft Fair on 5th December. Everything there is handmade by local artists and craftspeople. There are over 45 exhibitors with products ranging from textiles, bags, knits and cushions, to ceramics, glass, jewellery and art.

First Post and New Lino Print

Well, this is my first blog post so it is a bit of a test as well. It is a very grey day so a good time to start posting I think.

Hopefully the launch of my new lino print 'Sailing on the Broads' will remind everyone of Summer days rather than chilly November!

I was inspired after a trip to the Norfolk Broads last August. It was a lovely sunny day and the water was a really bright blue with vivid green trees behind. The sailing boats there are quite unusual with lots of different sails and rigs. We were desperate to get out on the water but unfortunately all the boats were all taken. Next time.
